Meet Wicho: A Great Coffee Story

As part of our 15th year celebrations, we are highlighting some of our longstanding producer relationships. Check out this short video that tells the story of Guatemala’s Wicho Valdés, and his farms Finca Santa Isabel and Finca San Lorenzo. Wicho’s family has been producing coffee on these farms since 1962, and we were introduced to him in 2015 by our importers Mercanta Coffee Hunters.

Wicho’s coffees stand out due to their vibrancy, complexity, and their ability to hold up over time. We first noticed this when we released his Guatemala Santa Isabel as a Single Origin release in 2016. The following year, when we were searching for a high-quality Guatemalan offering to use as a component of our La Cordillera and Spice Island blends, we knew who to look to. (prepositions at the end of sentences are usually thorns in my side, but I’m okay with this)

Thanks to Mercanta, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to get to visit Wicho in Guatemala several times, and we were thrilled to welcome him for a visit to our roasterie and café in Spring 2019. The relationship between Metropolis and Wicho is an outstanding example of how great coffee can improve the lives of everyone who touches it. Great Coffee for Everyone!
